Wifi re-connect

  • Hi,

Would there be a way to force a Shelly-Motion to re-connect to a WiFi network, after it disconnected?
All I know how to do is to re-initialise it (by using the pin hole), but I was wondering if there was a 'reboot' pin hole sequence,

    without factory reset?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hello,
try to access through the web interface and select the reboot device item.
however, the sensor has connection problems and if it does not detect movement for a long time it goes into sleep mode and never wakes up.
no one is able to find a solution

  • I did some tests and downgrading to the previous version and assigning a static ip address seems to be fine. I wait until tomorrow to see if the problem recurs

  • Hi, in my experience it takes longer than 24 hours for the problem to occur.
It seems to occur only after a week - maybe two.

In that sense it is not too alarming, if it weren't for the fact that because I cannot connect to it on WiFi, I use the pin to re-activate the device. But that then essentially resets the device to factory settings.

When and if it occurs again (I had it happening once on every device since I received them), I will try the 'connect test', where one claims after 5, 6 attempts to connect with the URL, the device actually starts responding again. I cannot tell if this works or not.

I'll provide my findings when possible.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Yes, I had a sensor not sending API http calls when it was actually blinking when triggered.

However, I then repeatedly started trying to connect to it over and over again, and after fineish like attempts, it finally responded. After that, the sensor started sending the signals again through http calls to my server.

So it seems accurate that the device is actually in some kind of passive 'sleep' mode, even though the led's on the device signal motion is triggered, it is not sending out the requested http url.

To be continued... :) (with follow-up update)
BTW, it is also true this did not occur with previous firmware version on the device.
I am not sure, however, how I can revert the device to a previous version of the firmware, as this site does not list the firmwares for the motion (I believe - at least, last time I looked).
Thank you for your assistance in this matter, and providing the path forward.

  • Hello, same problem here. This Shelly Motion is realy crap!

Why is shelly not providing firmware update??

    - Ver 1.1.0,

    - fix-IP adress (via Web-Interface),

    - every 3-4 days Shelly Motion goes "offline"

    - have 2 Shelly Motion, going offline (not both at the same time)

    - Wifi Signal-Strengh "Very HIGH"! (1,5 m from WLAN)??

Every cheap Chinese device is working more reliable than this?

    Sorry, i can't confirm this.

In my houseautomation are 3 Shelly Motions working fine.

Are you using a houseautomation or "shelly only" with cloud?

  • Hi Stefan,

I can confirm this problem, it is the same.
I have a few shelly's 1 and some shelly p1. Everything is working fine.

However the motion sensor is a lot of trouble.

Disconnecting all the time, wifi signal is good, latest firmware.

Tried a lot, a few factory resets, different locations, but no luck.

For me the motion sensor is not usable right now.

Please give us some information about your settings.

Yes, "shelly only", WEB and Android-App. As onederduiker explained it looks, as I am not the only one. Unusable.

Well, what sets us apart is usage? :/

My components all run locally in a higher-level home automation system without access to the cloud.

For me I read the following from the sum of the contributions to the Shelly Motion (my interpretation without claim to 100% accuracy):

    • Users with local operations and home automation systems usually have no or only seldom problems.
    • More often * problems occur with cloud users. This could possibly be explained by errors in the cloud -> Shelly communication.

    What I also noticed:
It helps to reboot the Shelly Motion 1x after changing the settings.

    * More often, however, I see relative here. It is in the nature of a forum that users who have problems are more likely to post than users for whom everything is going well.

  • Thank you 66er

Of course problems are more likely to post.

I have some experience with my homey and before that Zipato and Vera.

At home I use different devices connected to Homey.

My girlfriend has a mini-camping, and I worked hard to realise a fair wifi-network.

I thought let's make some things a bit smarter. So I bought a few shelly1's. They work very well and we are happy with them. Now I can remotely switch things on and of. (By the way is it possible to use shelly1 with dusk/dawn in the shelly app?). Also the p1 is a nice thing. Use one on a camping place and more are following.

The motionsensor is not stable as i said before.

So if I understand right, you don't use the shelly app. I guess you include the sensor with another controller? If so, then a big change the app/cloud is the problem like you mentioned.

For the setup i use only a browser.

Homematic and ioBroker are responsible for control and evaluation.

And that without any problems (with the Motion too). ;)

Only sick people go to the hospital, So lets discount there complaints!

Has been a long time with no firmware update or even a post on them working on it.

I installed shelly all over the house counting on the motion sensors to work as advertised!!! only to be told, " Only people with problems post"

  • I'm glad to have found this older thread, I can't get my Shelly Motion to work either. It's somewhat comforting that it's not just me. I've probably spent five hours on it. I do fine up until the point where I open the Shelly App. The Discovered Devices opens for about 1/2 second, then disappears. I have tried using my WiFi address, as well as inputting the devices IP address.

I don't use Home Automation programs, rather I use Alexa for my mixed bag of stuff.

Has anyone found a solution? Is the solution to return my Motion and buy another brand? Help!
