Shelly 2.5 Roller Shutter - Calibration when power doesn't go to zero

  • Hello,

Just got my first Shelly devices yesterday and this is actually my first post in this forum! :)

I'm using a 2.5 in roller shutter mode to control my...shutter! and I wanted to calibrate it to control the position, but can't manage to do it.

I've read Dimitar's tips post on calibration and understood why it doesn't work in my case: calibration is based upon the power falling to a low level close to zero, but my old shutters don't actually control the endpoints and the power finally goes up.

In the nominal installation, i.e. without Shelly, the manufacturer's switch does the trick by detecting the over power and stopping the shutter. With Shelly 2.5, I activated obstacle detection and it works like a charm to do the job (and I'm thrilled by this feature, by the way!)

However, as it is not currently possible to perform a calibration WITH obstacle detection feature on, the power doesn't go to zero and calibration can't be done...

Any ideas on how to deal with this?

    - possible to change settings to allow calibration with obstacle detection?

    - I though about adding physical switches between Shelly outputs and the shutter to manually "emulate" the zero power. But this is not very accurate and practical, specially if I have to reset the module and re-do it each time...

    Thank you for your help!

  • I though about adding physical switches between Shelly outputs and the shutter to manually "emulate" the zero power.

this might be the only possible solution..

but my old shutters don't actually control the endpoints and the power finally goes up.

Are you sure? Maybe just the endpoints have not been properly configured as they were installed.. Have you checked one of the motors?

I have bunch of different motors (Jarolift, 3-T, Rademacher, SolRoyal) and all of them have endpoint detection, even the cheapest and also the oldest (~30 years old) ones..

    10x Shelly1, 7x Shelly 1PM, 2xShelly 1L, 9x Shelly 2.5, 3x Shelly2, 1x Shelly EM, 2x ShellyDimmer, 3x ShellyDimmer2, 1x Shelly 3EM, 1x Shelly4Pro, 1x Shelly Button1, 4x Shelly Duo, 1x, ShellyDuo G10, 3x ShellyVintage, 1x Shelly Bulb, 8x ShellyDuoG10RGB, 1x ShellyPlug, 2x ShellyRGBW2, 5x Shelly PlugS. 1x Shelly Sense, 3x Shelly i3, 1x Shelly Gas, 4x Shelly H&T, 1x Shelly Flood, 2x ShellyDoor&Window2, 3x TempAddon, 1x ShellyMotion

    That's what I'm afraid of...

And, yeah, my shutters are a french-brand called Bubendorff which about 10 years ago had this series without endpoints control at the motor. So they only work with their switch (which btw cost 70€!!).

    Cheers

  • In case anybody has the same type of roller shutters, know that the workaround with physical switches work. It takes some time, but I now have the shutter position.

Nevertheless, it would be great if it was possible to keep the obstacle detection on during the calibration.

    Cheers
